Sustainability
SUPPORT LOCAL, PROTECT LOCAL
In South Africa, although sustainable, environmentally friendly packaging sources are always improving, it’s not always possible to find perfect solutions. We are simply not that close to much of the world’s best innovation in sustainable packaging.
There are also necessary safety and hygiene requirements and regulations that must always be followed, relating to allowed packaging materials. This is for the sake of ensuring highest quality and consistency, but also the safest protection of our products for our customers.
We do not believe that we have all the answers but we commit to always improving, wherever we can, always looking for better, environmental solutions whenever they become available.

what does the FSC logo mean?
FSC refers to the ‘Forest Stewardship Council.’ In NOMU’s case, it means that we purposefully always choose to use repurposed or recycled board only, avoiding new or ‘virgin’ board or paper on principle. This primarily refers to almost all of NOMU’s primary, paper-based packaging and labeling.

We take pleasure in discovering fun and innovative approaches to reusing and repurposing our packaging. If you’re anything like us and truly despise throwing anything away, then you may adore learning about strange and uncommon NOMU packaging tricks.
- Why not properly wash and clean and then re-use our VANILLA PASTE and EXTRACT bottles as make-shift travel bottles for shampoo, or hand soap?
- Make the kids repaint or just relabel any of our HOT CHOCOLATE tins to turn them into colourful fun and interactive pencil holders
- What about using our RUB tins to pot a little pet cactus or succulent and use this as a thoughtful little desk gift?
- Punch a few holes in the sides of our RUB Tins, you can fill these with soil and use them as cute and funky, small plants pots for shelf decoration or even a bit of small-scale urban farming in your home! A baby Chilli plant, anyone?
- Wire a whole bunch of RUB tins together, punch a few extra holes and put candles inside to create a gorgeous, hanging chain lantern for your porch or balcony
